Value
The goal for this podcast is to support you in your locking journey wherever you happen to be. So if you are a loose natural considering locking, I’ll be bringing you interviews from women sharing their stories of what motivated them to lock their hair, their highs and lows and lessons learned locking.
We will be hearing from a wide variety of lock weares from women with wicks to wearers with the smallest of micro locs. So no matter you background, lifestyle or desired aesthetic there will be someone sharing a story for you!
We’ll also be hearing from a variety locticians to get their insights into the locking process. If you are looking to find a loctician you’ll find their insights invaluable in making a good choice. Or if you are not able to go to a loctician because of a lack in your area you will be getting tips and encouragement for making the best of your situation if you happen to be starting your locks alone.
We will also be hearing from authors, educators, and directors of training organizations that specifically help those aspiring to become locticians. There aren’t enough natural hair care professionals to serve the growing number of women who are seeking freedom in locs. My hope is that these guests will inspire more people to become proficient in the art of starting styling and maintaining all types of locs.

Frequency and Format
So now that you know what we hope to provide you in this podcast you are probably wondering how often you can expect it to come out!
I’m launching with 3 episodes. This is episode 000 and I’ll have two more episodes coming out on the day that this podcast goes live. Then I plan to go 3 times a week Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Mondays and Wednesday will be interview shows. On Fridays I’ll be sharing what I’m learning on my educational path to become a licensed natural hair care specialist/loctician in the state of North Carolina. More on that in a minute!
My goal with the Friday episodes is to demystify the process and share resources for those who are thinking about this career path but are unsure where to start.
About me
That’s about the show that’s about the format I’m going to take this last little bit of time to just tell you a little bit more about me so that you’ll know where I’m coming from.
I’ve had a love affair with locs and the concept of loced hair since my early 20s. I got my first set of locs when I was 22. And had them for 3 years before taking them out.
I tried to get a braider to help me establish a second set, micro braidlocs, a year or so after taking the first set out. But the establishment didn’t work out and I ended up cutting my hair. I have been a loose natural for 15+ years.
That changed in October of 2021 when I decided to micro braid loc my hair myself after unsuccessfully trying to find someone to do it for me. The process and happenings surrounding that decision lead me to consider going to get licensed to become a loctician and do locs myself. I found a program that would work with my schedule as a working adult. But the door wasn’t completely open for me to go.
So I decided to start this podcast as a means to deepening my understanding, meeting other loc wearers and inspiring others to not to put off this decision to lock their hair as long as I had.
I had recorded less than 10 interviews when the door opened and I was able to move forward with the training that is the first step in the process of becoming a licenced loctician in North Carolina.
At first I had thought this podcast would just be about microlocs but I realized as I researched loc professional guests and talked to lock wea rers that a podcast about finding hair freedom in locs but limited itself to a certain size or type wouldn’t be true to the reality.
Although I plan to primarily specialize in starting nuvo traditional microlocs, that is microlocs started with microbraids or microtwists and maintained with interlocking, I want to be knowledgeable of all types of locs so that I am best able to support clients in choosing the type, method and foundation that will work best for their hair type, energy level and lifestyle.
Yes, there has been a rise in the popularity of microlocs over the last few years. But women have been finding freedom in locs of all types and sizes started with a variety of methods for decades. It isn’t a certain size of locs that frees us. So I’m excited to share the stories of women from all backgrounds with all types of locs to give the fullest picture of the spectrum of options that those seeking hair freedom have.
I’m am just getting started and am excited for the journey ahead of me! If you would like to join me please take a moment to subscribe to the podcast!
